With Artecon's 16 Port Serial Multiplexor, serial devices can be added toSPARC system servers with 16 ports, which support RJ45 phone jackconnectors. These connectors enable quick connect/disconnectfunctionality, so a system administrator can add or subtract deviceswithout having to go into the system or remove boards. With themultiplexor, extra terminals, printers, plotters, and modems can be addedto a SPARC server without speed degradation through the use of its 16-KBdata buffer. Performance is also increased through a driver that usesdirect DMS transfer to carry data to the ports.In addition to 16 serial ports, the multiples or also has a Centronics-compatible parallel port for attaching parallel printers. This allowsthe addition of any parallel port-compatible device without the need foradditional converters or adapters.
